Polly is sad to report that Tom died Sunday afternoon, December 17. For a week he refused food and water. Slowly he faded away until, like the Cheshire Cat, all that remained was his smile.
Tom always loved science, good causes and great parties with friends. We will have to imagine him welcoming and mingling with the guests, making sure they get their bubbling punch and honey-baked ham. At 11:30, in top hat and bow tied, his ghost will stand on a coffee table, passing out bottles of champagne and plastic cups, and directing guests to Central Park to watch the fireworks. As the glow fades, he and Polly will embrace one last time in the cold.
Thanks again to the Right at Home aides, the staff at 305 West End AL, the staff at 20 West 72nd Street, and the nurses at Calvary Hospice for supporting us in these last difficult months.
Polly has posted an obituary to her blog. There will be a memorial gathering when the cherry trees blossom in Central Park.
Please no flowers. You can donate in Tom’s honor to CCNY or to Graham. Thank you.
